”Implementing the  AAP Classifications”

Course Description:

Are you effectively integrating the AAP periodontal classifications into your daily patient care? This course provides a practical guide to implementing the latest standards, ensuring every patient receives an accurate periodontal assessment. From health and gingivitis to periodontitis, as well as implants, we’ll cover how to assign and document classifications in alignment with the AAP guidelines. Gain the confidence to apply these protocols consistently, improve clinical outcomes, and meet the standard of care with precision.

Course objectives:

At the conclusion of this course the participant will be able to:

•  Identify the AAP classifications for periodontal health and their clinical significance.

•  Describe the staging and grading process for periodontitis using the 2017 AAP guidelines.

• Explain the AAP classifications for gingivitis, including diagnostic criteria and progression.

• Outline the three AAP classifications for implant health and disease.

About the presenter:

Shelley Brown, MEd, BSDH, RDH, Shelley has worked in dentistry for 25 years. Her current clinical setting is working with patients in homebound settings with her company, Homebound Smiles, LLC.  She also currently works as adjunct faculty at the Utah College of Dental Hygiene, a baccalaureate program. With her masters degree in instructional design she loves curating educational content. Shelley is an award recipient of the 2021 Today’s RDH Honor Awards and was on the 2023 RDH Magazine advisory board. She has been listed as a top 50 teledentistry leaders to know.. In her free time she loves riding her 4 young boys around her city on her cargo bike.
